Personally I don't know what the translation would be. I'm assuming you made this inquiry because you plan to purchase one. You can pick them up at the Pinoy(Filipino) market that is open every Sunday afternoon outside the Catholic church in Hya Wha station.

in hangul, it is 바리깡
pronunciation is Bah-Ree-Kang

I have no idea why they calls it that. It was always a mystery when I was a child.

If you need to buy some, print out a picture to show exactly what you want.

You should learn (i should too) how to ask "Do you sell this?" in Korean.
Then print out a picture of your said hair clippers (use google images) and show it to the salesperson.

I just thought of that there. What a good idea.

That's 바리캉, Jake. And the word itself comes from French.

Like xerox, bariquant comes from the name of the company that first introduced hair clippers to the country (Bariquand et Mare) and the name stuck. Except Koreans don't know what xeroxing is.

I bought mine walking into a salon supply store, putting my hand to my head and making buzzing sounds. Use your imagination!

That's nothing - I remember staying with a French dude who said that when he went to the shop to get some eggs, he couldn't find them, so inorder to communicate, he pretended to be a chicken with the noises and arm flapping to boot.
