|

So, I work every other saturday until 1.
This week, I wanted to leave at 12 because me and my GF are meeting some friends on an island for valentine's day (cheesy, but better than staying in the city doing the same 'ol).
My boss says no. And not only says no, but says "If you leave early, everyone has to leave early.
I'm fuming because today we had to come in at 8 to have a book packaging meeting. Why? "So that it doesn't interrupt our work schedule". The meeting ended up being the most pointless ever.
So, I don't know, this job is really starting to push my buttons, i.e., a thousand paper cuts will drive you crazy faster than a gash. |

"If you leave early, everyone has to leave early."
Whoah, if ever I hear a set o' conditions like that from my boss, I'm accepting.
"Yeah? Cool. Hey gang, we're outta here. Thanks, boss." [High fives boss] |

| Do you care about your work? If not, (a sad truth about too many in Korea, which I wish wasn't the case), and this was a one off, then you should have just left at 12, and not have asked. Easier for an employer to take an excuse, than giving permission. |

Your employer is full of it.
Unless you have a class on Saturday at 12, you should be able to leave. He is being unreasonable.
How long into your contract are you?
If your are approaching the end, suck it up.
If you are near the six month mark, start looking for another job. There's no shortage of hagwon jobs where you go in, teach, and go home. I have friends who average 5 hours/day at their hagwon. |

| It`s kind of petty that your boss wont let you leave an hour early. Should just lie and say you have an ortho appointment or something. |

I hear this advice a lot here. But how do you actually go about doing it? My understanding is that your Hagwon pretty much owns you because of the visa. They're not going to give you a LOR. Aren't you going to end up having to leave the country? I've not been able to figure out step 2 of this scenario. |

| It's not like he is asking you to do anything different from your norm. Suck it up and do what the guy signing your checks tells you to do. It's called being a responsible adult. Crying over ONE hour of work that you're supposed to do anyways is lame. |

| uh, why not just reschedule the meeting to 1:30 or so? I imagine your boss had everyone begging to get out early, including his wife- which is probably why he said what he did. |

Because that would be too rational and level-headed for people that post here. The proper Dave's ESL response would be to angrily quit and then accuse all Koreans of being racist peasants. |
