I just accepted a position in Daejeon. Anyone have any idea about the place? Is it a nice place to live? |

Not so bad. Improving foreign food situation. Lots of rural nature around it. Almost like a suburb of Seoul with KTX now. |

Don't live there, I live about an hour or so out. I go there to escape the boredom of the little town I live in on occasion. It's an OK city as far as I'm concerned. I prefer it to Seoul, but I'm from a small corn town, mid-West town. |

there is a shopping/bar area concentration in one part of the city, not sure where exactly, but close to one of the E-Marts. There are a few lounge bars, western type bars, and korean restaurants and bars, and even a club or two all in the area, as well as a huge, "high class" department store. apart from that, it's not as busy as Seoul and seemed a bit boring in comparison to Seoul, but every place i've been to except NYC seems boring in comparison to Seoul.
you'll be fine in daejeon. |

I'm here
I would say a few more visitors would not hurt at all!
It always seems very quiet during the winter.
It's a little spread out so check the location. |

dunsan dong is the newer downtown area of Daejeon, so you'll be closer to the interesting parts of town if nothing else. |

Also in Daejeon.
It's pretty good, and if you're living in Dunsandong then you'll be fairly close to a lot of the main recreational stuff. And Eunhengdong is only about a 5000-6000 taxi ride away for two of the popular foreigner bars(J Rock/Brickhouse). |

I stayed there for about a month, seems okay. Pretty much the same as Seoul - crowded, has a subway, has all the main shops 'n' stuff, and best of all: most bus stops have signs telling you how long you have to wait! |

Daejeon is a big city with a small town feeling. Not the excitement and rush-rush of Seoul, but not the kill-yourself-boredom of the countryside. |

There are lots of adjectives I could use to describe Daejeon, but "crowded" is not one of them. Not even close. |

Doubtful. I live in the older neighborhoods but spend most of my time in the newer downtown. Yes, downtown has more traffic, but nothing I would term crowded or "rush hour". Certainly nothing close to the gridlock of Seoul. |

daejeon is a good city to live in.... a lot of people from seoul move down to daejeon b/c they consider it a retirement city... it isn't as hectic and crazy as seoul, but it still has everything they need...
as for us teachers, daejeon is definitely not as exciting as seoul or busan... i've lived here for over 5 years and i do get restless a lot with this city.... that being said, after visiting seoul for a few days and then coming back to daejeon, there's this sense of calmness and relaxation which i enjoy....
as mentioned before, dunsan-dong is probably the most popular area in daejeon.... eunhaeng-dong is also good, but older.... dunsan is more modern.... since your school is in dunsan-dong, you'll really enjoy and benefit from being in that area.... everything you'll need is close by...
all in all, i'd say check out daejeon for a year and go from there.... hope this helps... |
