Definitely too low for a hagwon position. The minimum you should be expecting is 2.2. |

Why would you even consider it? |

2.2 should be the absolute lowest you should consider,,,and even then there should be at least a couple special considerations in your contract since you have proven you can fulfill a one year obligation. |

Depending on what the conditions are - hours, vacation, etc.
6 hours a week and 5 months paid vacation is not bad |

1.8 million!!!
Have you seen the exchange rate lately?
Not to mention the cost of living is probably 10% higher than it was two years ago.
This thread made me laugh out loud. |

It's not a bad salary if you are living in 1996. |

I assume it's better than 0, which is what you're probably getting right now back west. |

I get paid 1.8 for a very easy elementary PS job. I can save a fair amount and I'm in Busan which is a perk. But I wouldn't take the wage for a hagwon job which is going to be far more work and less holiday. And especially seeing as it's your second year here. A while back people reckoned 2.4 was a decent hagwon job, but now I think there's more agreement around 2.2. |

1.8 is reasonable depending on the hours. If you're working at PS, it's the norm. Also if you work privates on the side, (which is illegal and I totally say no to it because it's illegal, illegal is bad bad bad) its more than enough to have a great time and pay for student loans.
PS put some clothes on the avatar man.

The fact that this is even remotely being defended as a decent wage makes me really glad to be leaving this country. The past year has seen an IMMENSE lowering of expectations by foreigners about job remuneration. |

Marlowe - I'd be saying something different if I hadn't got a ridiculously easy gig. If you're teaching the 22 and getting contracted holidays then, yes, it's probably too bad. However, saying that, I'm saving more than I would in a more stressful/demanding etc job in the UK.
2.0 is minimum for PS except Busan where it's 1.8. But even then, I should have got a TEFL to make it 2.0. If your anywhere else you can start PS at 2.0 and probably more (rural allowance, more than one school etc). |
