I'm going to have my first ever telephone talk in a few days. We're supposed to talk for three minutes with each student, including kindy. Does anyone who has experience with this have any suggestions for topics or just general advice? Thanks

This telephone talk is a complete waste of time. For example;

T - Hello, is Minju there?
P - 에!
T - Minju please.
P - 누구야!
T - I am Minju's teacher and I called for a telephone talk.
P - ... (click).

This is the general way how these things will work. To try and talk to the students will be the first battle. The students will either be busy with homework, eating kimchi and rice or playing on the computer. If you manage to speak to them, will they speak to you in English? I guess the kids will be pretty embarrassed to talk English in front of their parents and will do the silent treatment.

I remember doing a Phone Conversation class with roleplay with business students, I set up the material and emailed all students to let them know what the topic was and the roleplay material but they didn't have time to talk, were in meetings or didn't even read the email.

It is a complete and utter waste of time. Sure it will give a chance for students to talk but achieving the aims is like finding a needle in a haystack.

Forgive my ignorance, but what is a phone talk? Is it a hagwon thing? Do you get paid extra for it?
