We all know an American actor David Carradine was found dead in his hotel room wardrobe with a rope around his neck.

Now Auburn University student who was visiting Bankok while attending summer program in Japan disappeared in Thailand. This news especially got my attention because I once was a student at Auburn University in Alabama and my future mother-in-law was a professor at there.

A couple years ago my brother lead 12 of his high school classmates to Thailand and Philippine trip, he told me this story...
Some of their group members try to find nice bar for some drink and they found one of bars had a sign that say " No grenade please ".
It wasn't gun, it was grenade !!!!!

I have 3 Thai friends here in America, I like them a lot, they are sweet, friendly and treat me real well.
A father of one of them murdered, this is 3rd Thai person who told me his/her father was murdered and I've only met 6 Thai in entire my life.

I've not met any korean whose relatives are murdered, not yet.

Thailand is a land of smile ???

I love Thailand. I love the food MORE than korean food, I love the people, I love the culture, I love the beer (better than any korean beer), millions and millions of people go to Thailand each year, they fall in love with it, they come back over and over again. Yes, Thailand is a great place, miss seoul, I read that you lost 70,000 dollars recently, is this why you are having such negative posts about so many things? I guess if you had that money, you could go and spend a year in the land of smiles, and yes, you would love it.

Missing Auburn student left Thailand on his own

AU News (news release)
Published: July 30, 2009

Investigators in Thailand have notified Auburn Universitys Department of Public Safety and Security that Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine student Michael Harrie left that country on Wednesday, July 29. Immigration officials said Harrie appeared to be safe and apparently left the country under his own free will.

Thaivisa.com got the word, but no one else apparantly.

Dear Forum members & moderators,

All I can add is that Michael has left Thailand safely, is continuing to travel alone and of his own free will, and that we are continuing to track him in an attempt to persuede him to contact his family.

Thank you again to all who offered advice and assistance.

The guy just decided to head out backpacking and not to go home? He'll probably turn up teaching in Korea by Sept. Twisted Evil

Whatever. The gap between the rich and poor in Thailand is very great and most people in Thailand are poor and are very superficial due to that. The Thai people I've met are very fake and shallow. The only thing on their mind is $$$$$$$$$$$. That's probably why old, perverted white guys like Thailand. The girls would do anything for money there.

Thailand is amazing and anyone who tells you otherwise doesn't know how to have a good time. I just spent five weeks there and my brother and family have lived there for over two years... truly the most amazing place I've ever been.

Thailand is a dangerous place, but usually only for Thais. This pattern is slowly changing as Thais become more jaded by tourists, political unrest, economic conditions...The murder rate in Thailand is high (very few foreigners, but enough to make one pause), justice for foreigners is dismal, and xenophobia and nationalism are very high, but hidden under the famous Thai smile and gentle demeanor. Thais can hide their dislike, their anger, very well. They tend to repress it until the point of no return, and then they are out for murder. The concept of face is essential knowledge for living well in Thailand.

Yes, Thais can be astonishingly materialistic, superficial, class oriented, and racist, but I've met a lot of good people there--at least I think I did--they're so good at hiding their true feelings. Like the Japanese ability to smooth over tension with etiquette, the Thais use their friendliness and gentle manner in many coded ways.

Thailand is about to explode. I have a feeling that the tourism industry is on the verge of collapse due to the worldwide economic problems, and also the fact that Thailand is not so cheap as it used to be. Westerners can reach beautiful beach/trekking/other stuff destinations and pay less than they would to visit Thailand. Add the increasing perception of tourist scams taking place in the country to the political instability there, and it doesn't bode too well. I'm not an expert on the social problems in the country, but when the king eventually dies then I expect the place to go up in flames.

I always found that Philippine people smile (and are happier) than Thai people...

Maybe the Philippines should be named "Land of the smiles"

Of course she said that - Its illegal (and dangerous) for any Thai person to say anything untrue and offending about the Thai royal family...

Hey Miss Seoul! while you're logged on here - why don't you click on your former posting ( http://forums.eslcafe.com/korea/viewtopic.php?t=161759 )

and change the 32th (in the title) to 32nd... It will save us from thinking most people of Korean heritage are useless at English...

It really gives me the creeps every morning when I log onto Daves to see 32th

Hahaha, you know I realized it should be 32nd, not 32th as soon as I post, but my stubborn head just didn't want to correct.
Anyway I corrected and are you happy now ? Laughing
