Just about every 20-something girl I know doesn't really know how to make kimchi without help, and every single guy I know doesn't either. So who will be making kimchi once their mothers and grandmothers pass on? |

Funny joke but uh... kimchi factories, perhaps? You think the kimchi you buy in the vacuum-sealed pack at E-Mart is handmade by grandmas? |

Yeah but that kimchi is expensive as hell, and some Koreans tell me the ingredients are questionable (preservatives and stuff added to something that is generally healthy when home made). Maybe there will be enough of a demand for a preservative free Kimchi product when that time comes. |

Umm it almost is. I saw an episode of 30 min docu on KBS about one kimchi factory in korea. The kimchi is all made by hand by ajummas except their all wearing white masks and white suit standing in a factory line infront of a coveyor belt... They lather on the red paste all by hand every single cabage leaf.. |

To use the same level on anecdotal evidence...I know many 20 something Korean women who DO know how to make kimchi. (not being a smartarse, I actually do know at least seven who do). |

OK, so in 20 years there will still be kimchi... it will just be REALLY expensive unless Samsung invents kimchi-making ajumma robots. |

Emart and Homeplus will always have their ajummas who can make it, jar it and sell it to the mass public. |

While there are more and more married women who never make it (they prefer to buy it because they're working), I've been told by quite a few people that women usually learn how to cook, clean, and generally be a good housewife by their mothers when the time comes, i.e. they get married.
Plus there's actually been a resurgence in the amount of homemade kimchi after the Chinese kimchi parasite egg scare in 2005- it was even in the newspaper. |

In the future you'll have products that market as"Homemade Kimchi" that is popular will demand a premium price. |
