Hahaha! I can't stop laughing at the last paragraph! Laughing
Sounds too typical to be real.

In 2005, KCNA said a man sailed through a volley of bullets to defect to the North. The South's military said at the time his family suspected he was drunk.

No kidding... I've done some pretty boneheaded things while drunk, but nothing like DEFECTING TO NORTH KOREA. I wonder what that guy thought the next morning when he woke up with a hangover and the reality of what he'd done slowly dawned on him...

"He is beside himself with Remorse for having accomplished this heroic deed," the North's KCNA news agency said. It identified the defector as Kang Dong-rim, 30.

Fixed.

I think he was quite disgruntled. He'd been a Samsung worker, but "of late" working on a pig farm?? How does that happen?

Anyway, that would be a killer hangover.

I wonder if the "I was drunk" excuse would work when he tries to escape back, gets caught and sent to a gulag.

Bravo his life. Good riddance. Every year South Korea should invite anyone who wants to defect to board a boat, tow it out to neutral waters, and let a North Korean tug tow it in. That might reduce the population of extreme idiots slightly.

Well sounds like he had good reason to flee:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/asia-pacific/8329165.stm

Quote:
Police in Jinan county 180 km (110 miles) south of Seoul, where Mr Kang worked, said he had been wanted since late September on charges of assaulting the owner of the farm where he worked.

Na Jun-bae, a senior Jinan county police officer, told AFP news agency that Mr Kang had worked for the farm for two months before he assaulted the owner with a blunt object and ran off.

The owner needed three weeks of medical treatment.

Let the North have him. In a couple years time he'll probably be wishing he just coughed up the blood money.

I thought the NORKs were supposed to be good shots. How does one swiftly sail through a wave of bullets?

Regardless this is pure gold.

I wonder if the SKs are having as good a chuckle over it as we are?
