A current job ad on this cafe:

Jeeves... I've changed my mind... call the pilot and give him our ETA. Tell him to file a flight plan for Dubai and fire up the Lear. |

That ad, beyond just being obnoxious, is also massively misleading. 4,000,000 "inclusive of all severance/housing/medical insurance/plane"??
So 4 mil MINUS severance MINUS housing MINUS the plane ticket? What does that end up being in actual pay? Please excuse my lazy math, but assuming 600 towards housing (if its in Akpujeong maybe more, who knows) 1400 for the round trip ticket, that is 8600 off the 48 mil, so 39,400,000. Divide that by 13 (12 months plus one month's severance), and it is about 3 mil a month. Not quite sure how to add in the insurance to the equation, so I will leave it out.
3 mil is nothing to scoff at, but it is NOT 4 mil. That is a lie, or at the very least not in line with the way that 99.9% of other job adverts display the pay.
But my university is not top 25 material (no matter what list he is using), and my name is not yet famous in the SAT teaching community, so this isn't really my concern. |

It seems plain to me (excuse the pun) - the genius who posted this ad assumes high SAT scores are not necessarily correlated with the ability to add and subtract. |

Ha ha! I've been searching for a job and I saw this ad. It just makes me wonder...are there really ESL teachers out there that are so "famous" that random people who work in hogwans know who they are? Kind of like Norm on Cheers? |

Not a random hagwon, and where did you get the idea? It's an "SAT I test prep academy located in Apgu Jung Dong." Come on, that's the farthest thing from random - it's very specific, and the person they want to hire is so specific that a normal recruiter wouldn't be able to handle it.
They are willing to hire someone outside of the top 25 unis, but only if that person has acquired a reputation elsewhere, like from publishing in academic journals or activity in some professional organization.
That's what I think is going on ... and they're being upfront because they'd like to maybe avoid being inundated with identical empty resumes from fresh-faced recent uni grads all with identical resumes, except for the lot who have a BA in geography or a Masters in Chemistry, or a law school degree or something else that would have no possible application toward preparing ESL students to improve a score on a specific college entrance test.
They are a specialized school, the kind I'd never want to work at, and I'm happy they told me who they are so I don't have to bother with them. |

The only two individuals I know in Korea who would qualify are Dave Theissen or Steve Schertzer. |
