I adopted a gorgeous cat in May, thinking it would be good for my daughter.

The cat has had a few owners - but always an indoor cat, never outdoor.

I thought she would make a good companion for my kid, but the cat had never been around kids before mine, and no matter how hard we tried, she doesn't like my daughter and would scratch her and be hostile towards her.

My daughter LOVES the cat and likes playing with her - although rough at times, but she is a young child. I asked her many times to play nicely with the cat, but at 5 years old, it's a case of one ear in, one ear out.

So I don't have a choice but to put this cute kitty up for adoption.

I really would like to keep her, but she doesn't like my daughter and has more than once scratched my daughter and made her bleed. She almost got her in the eye once, too.

Oh this cat is 4.5 years old or there about. I have pictures of her at home, so I will upload them when I get home later this evening.

As we would like to get another cat, a kitten this time, I am afraid I am not able to part with any of our gear. But either way, if no one here wants to take the cat, I will have no choice but to send her to a shelter, which I would hate to do.

Please refrain from judging me - my daughter wakes up in a sweat some nights because she has nightmares of the cat scratching and hurting her.

Doesn't anyone want a cute, fully house trained and independent kitty cat?

have you thought about nail guards? All they are are little pieces of plastic (rubber?) that you put on the nails, to prevent scratching.

Just an idea.

Possibly have the cat declawed. Sending the cat to the animal shelter is the same as sending it to a death camp. Only a matter of days before the poor cat is euthanized.

Here's are pictures of the cats:

I thought about declawing etc. etc. but that's not the only thing she does. She bites and she displays hostile behaviour towards my little girl...

So cute!

I wish I could help by adopting her, but I have vacation and use it. Finding catsitters for so much time would be difficult and unfair to the cat.

Good luck in finding her a good home, though.

Is the cat hostile with your daughter in response to rough play? I'm thinking of getting a cat. However, I'm a bit concerned that this scratching/biting situation may occur in my home as well which is not what I'm looking for.

Do you have any children?

If so, this cat is not for you. Yes, it's partly in response to rough play... but the cat just doesn't care for kids.

She is great with me, however.

Cats aren't hostile to age groups; that just doesn't happen. If the cat is great with you but responds aggressively to your daughter, you should be able to easily recognize the problem (hint: it starts with an 'f' and ends with 'ive-year-old'). Replacing the cat with another cat would not solve that problem. That would simply result in a cat that grows up to be either overly aggressive or overly skiddish.

We had a cat before that ran away (our fault for leaving the door wide open) and she was absolutely fantastic with MY daughter, but not other children. She would let my daughter pull her tail, whiskers, legs etc. etc. without even so much as a meow, but would hide as soon as other children came to visit for play dates.

This cat was with me throughout my whole pregnancy. Before the baby was born, she would sit on me on my big belly! When we first brought our daughter home from the hospital, she sat curiously looking at the newborn, but never attempted to touch her. The most she did was to give her a sniff, a quick lick and then just sat quietly and watched. She never once got jealous. She would only come up for a cuddle when I wasn't holding the baby. When I was, she would sit next to us to keep us company.

My ex-husband and I always really liked this cat. We said she knew who her family was. We were pretty sad when she left and didn't return - we went out to look for her and hoped against all odds that she would come back, but she never did.

I know my 5 year old now is rough with the cat, but since I have had one cat before to compare this one with, I think I am qualified to say that cats do respond to different age groups.

I would like to get a kitten that hasn't had a previous owner, that can grow up with my daughter. Since my daughter isn't going to have any siblings, the cat is going to be her best friend.

One last thing - I could take offence to what you said, but I am choosing not to. So please refrain from telling me my daughter is the problem when you don't know the full story.
