Hello all,
I recently sold my desktop here to replace it with a netbook and I bought this on newegg. But while it was being shipped, a friend of mine sold his rigged laptop to me for way cheap it was too good to pass up.
It just arrived a few days ago, but having it shipped back to my family in the U.S., waiting a week or two to get my refund, and having to pay the restocking fee, I figured it's better to just sell it here at a discount.
The netbook I bought is:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834220659&cm_re=1201N-_-34-220-659-_-Product
It is one of the top rated netbooks out there.
It is still packaged, never opened. Brand spanking new. All receipts available.
It was bought at $489, but the 15% newegg restocking fee will lower it to $415, then shipping costs to bring it back to the states. Not including the time it'll take to do this whole returning ordeal. I know it's probably a high demand netbook as you can't get it in stores here (probably going to be marked up to like.. W650,000+), but I'm not a Yongsan salesman.
I'm figuring W400-425,000 is a good range after currency exchange rates. And here i'm obviously not looking for a profit or trying to get what I paid for it. I'm just doing what is more convenient for me, people pay for convenience (in this case rather lose some money).
Shipping costs for my 10+ pound desktop I sold earlier surprisingly cost only W6,000. Reference to buyer can be given.
Since the netbook is already prepared for shipping, I can do it for free and it only takes 3 days tops, less if you're in Seoul.
If you're in my area, picking up can be better, I'm near Hankuk University of Foreign Studies Station, Seoul.
PM or E-mail, I prefer W425,000, but I'll take offers. But remember those who offer more will take priority. Also who gets me the money first will get it.. don't want to waste days and days for the first person to contact me to back out in the end. |

Currently have someone who says he can transfer me the money after he gets off work, a heads up to those interested.
I'll post again if he doesn't follow up (high probability, given my experience here).
Whoever gets the money to me first gets it, whether it be in my bank or cash in hand. Just giving the first person who contacted me priority. |

Just got the text saying his boss turned down his plea for an advance. Lol.
Netbook is up for purchase, whoever can show me the money first!
No more waiting for people in line to get in contact with me.
We can set up times to meet during the weekend, but if someone bank transfers before we meet, I will contact you and let you know asap.
This is just more efficient to get things out of my hands in my experience, negates time wasted with no shows.
I currently have one buyer who has time Sunday afternoon to come by and pick it up, so plenty of time before then to schedule a meet or pay.
I'm available all day on the weekends, I get home around 10:30-11:00pm on weekdays, so this weekend is prime |

I am supposed to meet this guy at 5:00 PM today, but he hasn't returned my PMs since yesterday. I wired him 425,000 won yesterday afternoon at about 2:00 PM. I hope nobody else sent him the money, because it seems highly likely that he is a scammer. I thought he was safe because of his posting history, but obviously I was wrong. I should be home around 6:30 PM tonight, so I'll let you know if he actually shows up with the laptop. |

1) You live far away, so you send money. Ok, I get it, it's a risk but I get it.
2) You live close enough to meet. You pay in person then or make a 30,000 down payment. I understand that with higher ticket items, especially in this case.
BUT....
3) You meet the guy and pay all in advance????
Something is seriously wrong here folks. We have a potential seller scamming and a buyer who wants to be scammed. Oh well, if both are true, they were meant for each other. |

Yeah, I messed up big time. If something seems too good to be true, then it usually is, right? I don't know why I fell for it, but I did. The guy never showed up (as I expected) and that money is gone for good. It's an expensive (although not too expensive, at least) lesson that I learned these last two days. Immediately after I sent the money, I thought "I should have sent a deposit instead" but that thought was too late. |

The guy was quite convincing. Looking through his posting history shows that he was either planning this for a long time, or legit at one point. I'm glad you didn't get suckered too, and also glad that another person was supposed to buy the laptop. That's three people he committed to selling it to (two of which were after he confirmed receiving my payment). It's a pretty clear-cut case of fraud. I don't know if the police will do anything, but we have his bank account number, name and cell phone numbers (although the last two may be fake). It seems like at the very least this guy will have to get a new bank account to defraud more people (but I think that is all we can really hope for). |

My sympathies, Tatertot.....that sucks.....
I don't think I could trust anyone on Dave's buy/sell/trade now......except maybe the people who have been here for years and we all know their real identities by now.
Failing that, I'd only do deals person to person from now on.
It's a shame. |

These bad things make it difficult for the rest of us. But...there are good legit deals out there. I met tatertot today to sell him a Canon grip and it was a pleasant transaction. |

Check out the following craigslist add:

I did it this way because I don't feel totally comfortable sending out my information over the internet and I haven't reached the 25 post limit... |

Agreed, and I think that is why I have had great success in selling almost everything I have posted here. A lot of people know my handle or know me that I have been in Korea for some time now. I wouldn't send money to someone that wasn't "established". |

I don't mean to be condescending, but you guys gotta stop with these blind money transfers to people you have never met. You are just asking for it. This topic has come up a few times in the Buy in Sell forums and its always the same story:
1. Send money to some guy (long timer or not)
2. Suddenly lose contact with the guy.
3. Become irate and start posting "Don't buy from this guy" threads.
4. Find that a few other people fell for the same scam.
5. Consider legal action...and then find futility in that.
6. *Sigh* and accept that you've been suckered.
7. Rinse and repeat 1 month later with a new guy.
I'm sorry to be cynical, but you can't trust strangers or passing acquaintances on the forums.
***I've never heard of any of these bad-guys getting caught by Korean police, so now there seems to be some precedence that the con-artist won't have to face penalties.
Therefore, I think the occurrences are only going to increase.
Please. FACE to FACE or FORGET IT. I'm so saddened when I see these threads.
There should be a BIG bold sticky at the top on the forums to warn our more naive users. |
