What is the problem here? Are they saying that the precious little children are too good to clean toilets? That only janitors are low enough to do that kind of demeaning work?

I honestly do not see the problem. Kids clean up here (maybe not the toilets, but the floor). Maybe they generally don't do a real bang-up job, but I think it is a good lesson for them, that they are responsible for their school. Not that the lesson is usually learned, as the kids still make a mess, but it is a lesson worth trying to teach.

People pay a lot of money (through taxes) to go to school. This is a failure by the school and school district on so many levels.

One of my punishments as a child for having a smart mouth (I know. Hard to believe, huh? ) was to clean all 3 bathrooms top to bottom every Friday for a month. My mom came in every few minutes to check, and often stood above me pointing to a spot here or there to go over. It was crappy (slaps knee), but did teach me how to keep a bathroom sparkling (though I've let mine slide some, as I went on home leave, with my friend watching my apartment, then learned after I got back that I had to move) for my own home later on.

Cleaning a (basically) public bathroom, though? F no! Had my school ever attempted such a punishment, my mom would have been on them like white on rice. It's not the school's place to punish in such a way.

Janitors choose to work that kind of job.

That being said, schools pay Janitors to clean the school, If you employ Janitors to clean the school, you should not get the student's to do the chores as punishment.

In Korean schools its about community and doing your part, responsibility for chores

Using cleaning toilets as a punishment for not doing homework is so missing the point it's not even funny.

CHildren are supposed to get an EDUCATION at the school. There are plenty of alternatives for "punishment" and taking responsibility a school setting.

getting a kid to clean toilets for a punishment is vindictive and the sihn of an uncarin and lazy administration/teacher.

It is not about "teachinG" the child anything its about saying "you're gonna do as I say or you can clean other peoples crap for a living"

Maybe the 'kids' messed up the toilets? Punishment should be unpleasant in certain circumstances.

If the kids gripe about cleaning up the bathrooms they should be given toothbrushes to do the job. If they still gripe, bulldoze the bathrooms and put in an outhouse. That oughtta be fun during the winter months.
