So, I was interested in already starting a job hunt for jobs back in Canada. I have 5 years of teaching experience with a Communications degree. I was quite surprised to see my degree on the list, as I've seen several CEOs and successful people with CMNS degrees. However, when they mentioned the pyramid scheme thing... I was like.. hey, that's true.
Have a look and see if your degree is on there.

I read the first one and already it's idiotic.
These kind of articles are funny, but not when the guy gives himself a superiority above things that he is very wrong about.
The museum jobs for example. Just because you only see one, doesn't mean there is only one. The London National Gallery, for example, has a set of doors that are closed off to public, where acres and acres more of tall massive building is, where all the research goes into palaeontology, history, biology etc. Thousands of which work there.
Also 'will do jack shit in the real world' - This only applies to careers, which he is wrong about anyway, he simply just cannot see the opportunities. Possibly because he doesn't have those degrees.
A large chunk of people get Degrees because they want to. And the way it changes most people is pretty darn important for the real world. (Most decent people anyway, not those ones that get a degree because they don't want to get a job, they just continue getting drunk).
Edit - Latin is technically the official language of Vatican City. Also Latin will put you way ahead of others in terms of learning other languages such as French, Spanich, Italian - knowing any second language or more is constantly useful for careers. Latin is also useful in Law and Medics.
Film can expand your knowledge of the technology used, script writing etc etc, giving a massive range of jobs that aren't 'Hollywood', since Film = hollywood to this guy.
Etc etc.
Point is, They should get someone less ignorant to make these things in order to be properly funny. There was a cool website example I had... what was it... *rubs chin* |

But it's still pretty worthless. |

No degree is useless, it just depends on what you do with it (and with the time you were at Uni). |

I dunno, I do sort of hyperventilate when I think about getting a job back home and how my ability to write a Marxist analysis of The Super Mario Bros. probably isn't a marketable skill. |

welcome to the 1st circle of hell.
You should get in touch with your Canadian buddies. Ask them what they are doing with their degrees in communication. My gut feeling is that unless they are given jobs by their parents, you are doing better than they are teaching English in South Korea. |

Given the oversupply of university degrees it is now necessary for those of us who want to live a middle/upper middle class life to think outside of the uni framework. Professional designations is a better path for most. My cousin just finished an 18 month MRI tech program at SAIT in Calgary and landed a job @ 65k + full benefits (starting salary).
A communications degree isn't useful in the economy. Nor is sociology, philosophy etc. I enjoyed my undergrad experience but it won't make me any money. |

What Job Youll End Up With: You can read and comprehend, so that gives you an advantage over 99.5% of the people that PERSUE Craigs list job listings. Therefore, youll most likely end up landing an entry level position at a random small company, or showing up to your interview and being raped repeatedly by a group of masked men.
Oh the irony. |

Awesome, I'm #4... However, I do find that it gives me an edge when it comes to having to BS my way through something with writing. |

My brother did his degree in Ancient History & Latin and has gone on to have a well paid job in politics. Degrees are not always about getting you a specific job - things like English/Latin/Philosophy are about showing you know how to learn, think, analyse & interpret. They're actually highly sought after by employers as graduates of these subjects will be highly adaptable. I also agree with the poster who said that many other languages are derivitives of the Latin language (Spanish, French, Italian...). Once you learn Latin you can better understand those languages. It's pretty useful IMO and highly respected. |

Even Duke University cant put a solid sell on this degree: A major in religion offers intellectual excitement and can be a pathway to a liberal education. |
My sister just finished her PhD in religion (at Duke!) and she's now a tenure-track professor. Huh.
The majority of students are enrolled in this program because they're aspiring pastors. A little theology would definitely come in handy in that line of work. |

I'm sure all the other people that did Ancient history and Latin are enjoying lucrative jobs - not.

lol, the most success you can attain with a BA like that is becoming educator yourself. Again you are forgetting that the majority of students in religion do not get fruitful careers. Just because one person you know had success with X degree does not mean the degree is useful or can get you a decent job. |
