It's getting ridiculous. I've missed out on job opportunities, and I know of at least a few schools who are having trouble filling positions because of the delay in checks. The hoops that we need to jump through are also just plain silly and are a complete waste of time. Any word of getting rid of some of the silliness?

Nope.

In addition to the immigration requirements for E2 applicants the MOE has now made it (CBC and degree; both with apostille) a requirement for employers to verify and show (when the teacher is registered) for ALL teachers.

I don't find the idea of "proven" documents "silliness". I would want them to do the same for people charged with my children.

I do find in this electronic age having to wait on my country for 10 weeks for the document somewhat silly, but I applaud Korea for taking the responsibility to make us prove we fit their requirements.

I see most of the problem with my government, not Korea's.

I totally get that they want these docs. My frustration lies with having to do the apostille thing AGAIN, even for a visa transfer at the end of this contract.

Less than a year ago both docs were submitted with the new rules. Pointless and expensive, as well as being difficult to do.

Seriously looking elsewhere.

Even when we have a state system that works fine and is much faster?

Even when we have to submit the SAME document each year over and over?

Even though E-2 visa holders have had a crime rate significantly below the Korean average, and a major crime rate (Murder, Burglary, Rape, Larceny, & Assault) so low I can't find statistics on it?

Yes, the FBI needs to get their act together; it's the information age. Still, Korea should understand they won't change the US system by themselves, and not all countries work the same way as the US (one of the reasons an FBI check takes so long is the size of the US; not just the population, but the geographical size that makes it hard for smaller police departments to be wired). Since E-2 visa holders have never been a real social problem, why all the hoops to jump through?

We don't have to, that has been changed. If you don't leave the country for more than 3 months and don't break a contract (needing a new visa) you don't have to resubmit.

Maybe, but if they keep out one problem and keep one child safe, it was worth it. I think Penn State is doing some soul searching on an unrelated issue but still....

I don't think they really care if they change the US system. It is their country, their rules and most important their children. Play their game or not, it truly is the immigrant's choice and I choose to comply. Our FBI, size, method or whatever you want to call it truly is not their concern nor should it be.

A very black and white statement in a very gray world. Since I have been here (3 years) there has been several E-2 "problems".

Technically immigration are ok with me not producing the same docs again. Sadly many jobs still want them. No way to argue about the futility of it all.

Yes this has become a big problem. Even if immigration doesn't need it, many employers are insisting on it now. If you try to say no they think you're trying to hide something. Which is somewhat understandable, but at the same time I really wis
