this gives me faith in humanity. it's truly a blessing to see that people who don't understand a single word of the Korean language can still enjoy that completely foreign culture through the art of music. |
This comment made me chuckle. Apart from the obvious hyperbole, I'd love to know just what the completely foreign culture is that maybe a couple of dozen people in that stadium seemed to be enjoying. It all looked pretty watered down American to me. |

Funny video, catchy song, new dance people are relating to in many countries.
Haters gotta hate but this is putting kpop on the world map. Youtube is going nuts over it & its certainly not just Koreans.
Kudos to PSY, the unlikely ambassador of Korean popular culture but he's been at his game for 10 years now & seems like a likable guy.
Korean wave & curiosity about it just got a lot more widespread this month.

LOL, just stop. Americans and the west can care less about Korea. Korea is no bigger now than it ever was in the past and in no way is this weird song going to make the country burst forth into the limelight and onto the world stage as you are implying. what are you smoking? |

Tobacco.
You present yourself on these forums as cranky about just about anything Korean, OK, thats your prerogative.
On the other hand, the world these days seems to be on a hunt for the next new exotic surprise. Who knows? I dont. Just surmising. |

This song and video has made it far beyond the borders of Korea. Good for PSY as it is a funny and enteraining video and song. The number of hits and views on youtube is pretty impressive and they come from a lot of places outside of Korea. |

Christ your English is horrid, and you edited it, too.
That said, one of the best K-Pop songs I've ever heard. Then again, that's like talking about one of the best food poisonings I've ever had. |

Good to see Dodge7 is all over this, doing the research to make sure that nothing Korean could possibly escape and be liked by anyone non-Korean.
I like the song, but absolutely hate parody videos, and the mindless meme-fication of anything halfway quirky. Pop culture ADHD these days.
Not Psy's fault, and its a good song, but... |

I can see where Dodge is coming from to a certain extent. In a 'normal' country, like some of the others I've worked in before in Europe, there would be people around who disliked the song, wouldn't particularly want to talk about it and wouldn't see its sucess as a source of national pride. In a normal country the people who did like the song would not immediately see its success as a sign that their popular culture was taking over the world on a huge wave and mention this fact to foreigners whenever they had the opportunity (personally I find the idea that in a few years time I'll be sitting in a quiet French cafe having a morning croissant when Gagnam Style starts blaring out on the speakers, quite disturbing.) In a normal country you would not feel obliged to agree that their popular culture was taking over the world in order to avoid causing offence. In a normal country you'd be able to say you found the song really annoying and have some people agree with you, instead of seeing it as an attack on their whole raison d'etre.
Yes I know they feel they've been unrepresented in the past and have a lot of catching up to do but sometimes they remind me of the proud mother continuously raving about the successes of her kid. Eventually you kind of feel like you want him to fail his exams. |

To those of you who said this is a good song: What kind of mucic did you grow up with, listen to in college? What music do you like now? |

I don't like his music, but I've respected him as a performer and an artist since his first album because he's subtly subversive. His songs (which he writes himself) and his performances are parody, subtle enough that he doesn't often offend people. Gangnam Style, for example, is not just a silly song, it's a statement on society's obsession with wealth and class. |
