I came here in the early 2000s. Me and my friends were cool; aged around 30.
I have some friends from that time still here. Now we're approaching 40. I got married, had a child, bought a house, car, etc. But I've got friends still living like college.
If you're 40 years old living like college (no family, no real assets), you're not cool any more. You've become a loser. You should really go home, and get going with your life.
It's too sad for me to say to my "was-cool" friends, but really at a certain age you become a loser (like those Sex the City 40+ singles).
I remember when I got here, passing some old-timer thinking; "what a loser." Now I see that look on people I know |

Sounds to me like you were a bit of a late bloomer yourself.
You got started at 30?? Most people just do this for a few years or so in their 20s. If you were 32 living like most people I know in their 20s live here now, I'd say you were a loser then.
I'm still 2 years (and a bit) shy of 30 and I feel like I've outgrown this already. Yeah I know "30 is the new 20" and all that, but if I'm living like I do now when I'm in my early or mid 30's, I'd feel like I failed at life. For now it's cool. My one room studio, English-monkey job, pizza and beer weekends, new girlfriend every other month or so is all well and good in your 20s. But by the time 30 gets here, it's time to put this game to rest. |

It makes me sad how widespread this idea is.
Live your life and let others live theirs. Stop thinking your wife, child, house, and car should be important to everyone. |

Word. All famous are those without the OPs boring, mundane ideas of how to properly live. It's not the fame that matters to me, it's the idea of being passionate about living (through whichever form one chooses).

Bukowski, Burroughs, many other lived like losers until or after 40 before they published their major works.
No saying the OP's mates are or ever will be literary geniuses, just an example though. Who knows, maybe they'll pull their fingers out one day soon and surprise everyone....
Who knows?
Who cares?
Live your own life and be happy with it, they seem happy with theirs so who gives a damn?
Comparing youself to other's and other's standadrs, now THAT is the behaviour of a loser in my book. |

OP your post was simplistic and just meant at insulting a group of people. In that respect, maybe you succeeded.
However the REALITY is far different as judging someone based on his or her age and where he or she is is pretty stupid.
How the heck do you know how that 40-something guy you see in Korea is doing?
The loser term is something most of us dropped after graduating highschool. I mean its pretty darn childish as a term.
Good luck out there OP...wish you all the best and I am sure those people you knew back then who you know consider LOSERS really appreciate your judgement of their existance.... |

To me , a loser is someone who will look back on their life with regret and say-
" I shoulda , woulda, coulda .... " but never did.
To me, it's all about creating new memories , trying new experiences , making new friends & keeping the old .
It's NOT all about acquiring more 'stuff' ... unless that 'stuff' is pictures & mementos from all the places I've been & the people I've been there with. . |

If you are a loser like me, going home is the worst thing you can do. When I hear home, I think of going to live with a parent unless it's a big house where you get your own floor. Many of us in Generation X have suffered unemployment too much of our days, because there isn't anywhere for us to appropriately fit into society on any level. We are the career butterflies who never seem to find a green enough pasture. Don't go home. No one is hiring, rents have doubled, utilities and food are going up, and you'd be lucky to get a $9 hour job with no benefits despite your qualifications, skills, and abilities. It's just an era of economic de-development we live in. Those I know doing well do get up early for work, but they had competitive advantages like a bank president daddy referring them into good jobs and high places while paying off their student loans and mortgage balances as a Christmas gift. The difference between the, "have," and, "have nots," at home is not one of who is the best, but one of who is born into luck. Aristocracy is clearly evident even though America doesn't officially assign those titles. It's a crap bum deal if you aren't in that 1%. |

This.
Wonder why it's so important for other people to put other people down based solely on their age and location. Guess it's true what they say about misery liking company. |
