|
|
I'm sending my diploma and background check over to the Nevada Secretary of State for notarization and authentication but I wonder if it will be necessary to have the FBI check done instead with the Department of State. I have gone through this process before but this will be the first time working in Gyeonggi-do (near Seoul): what I have read tells me the authentication needs to be from the Department of State if you're applying for a Seoul job, otherwise there is a possibility immigration will deny the visa.
And so, am I safe to send this to the nearby Secretary of State or should I send it to the Department of State? It would likely be a difference of a few days, and those days are fairly valuable to me. |

It's just like you said....you can try to have it done by your state but there's a chance it will be denied. |

I got the apostille from the state, and I later decided to get another apostille from the department of state just in case. |

My recruiter had my CBC apostilled by the Illinois Secretary of State. I'm not sure why that was ok. I was living in California at the time and I know California won't apostille a document not issued in California. I dunno what the Illinois rules are and I definitely don't know the Nevada rules. It should be on the Nevada Secretary of State's website though.
Note: this was for last February's intake, so basically a year ago. And it was with the Cheongju immigration office. In any case it worked for getting me into EPIK.
I guess you can get the US Dept of State to apostille a degree copy, otherwise the degree probably has to be apostilled by the secretary of state for the state your college is in. I got mine done by Florida's SoS. Or maybe Illinois will do anything if you pay them the cash, lol. |

Your guess is wrong. The US State Department's authentication office won't apostille a diploma. |

The diploma probably should be apostilled in the same state the Uni is in. As far as the FBI CBC, why consider having it done in Nevada when you can get it done in Washington at the U.S. State Department and have nothing to worry about? |

Because Washington DC's office location has changed, making everything slow and difficult. And it would be a lot easier to have it down all at the same spot. both of my appostille from the secretary came back with in a week. And also, epik listed secretary of the state as one of the 2 option for getting fbi check. |

I actually just got back from the Authentications Department in D.C. today...took me about 2 and a half hours to drive down there but I was in and out in under 10 minutes. Grabbed some lunch with my dad and drove home. It's great if you're relatively close by and it's actually much bigger than the old office but I'm sure it will still take a few weeks to get things done if you mail it. |

So that's how the guys at US authentication make money. |

I was thinking how all those couriers must make a fortune off the place. You make an appointment (allowed 1 a day) and you fill out a sheet which allows you to get up to something like 35 different documents a day. Each document costs $8. Didn't those apostille couriers charge in the $200 range? Not a bad overhead. |
