I need two documents translated into English, my partner's 가족관계증명서 and the 결혼관계증명서. I have been told by a notary that I cannot translate these documents myself, that it has to be a Korean who has graduated from University with English as their major. Is this really the case? Seems kind of stupid when we could just translate it ourselves.

There used to be several of these translators located around the embassies. They seemed to be licensed for this.

If you are American, then it is pointless to translate them to English for getting a F-6 visa. The embassy will not notarize the translated copies since they don't verify marriage in America.

I'm American. My embassy needed several documents translated also, so they could give me my certificate to marry. There were several of these translation services located near the embassy.

I was mistaken, the eligibility marriage certificate does need translation. My wife did that for me though and she doesn't have a major in English studies.

I translated all the documents to process my (now) wife's K2 visa to come to the United States. We got them notarized, but we were told at the embassy that they didn't even need to be notarized. YMMV.
