Actually wondering where all my hard drive space is. I've got a toshiba laptop 30 gig and running xp. I don't have that much stuff on there that can account for so much hd space being used. A couple of movies and some music comes to 6gig, so what the hell is using the other 10 or so gigs? Is this a thing with laptop memory? I clean up the hd regularly but always seem to be struggling to keep it running on the 1/3-free hd principle that a few people have told me is best for laptops. Probably a dumb question but I could just be missing something. Any light...

Delete the porn. It really eats up storage space.

Are you using Norton?

I had the same problem as you. Until I noticed that everything I had sent to the recycle bin hadn't actually been deleted when I emptied the recycle bin! It's because Norton keeps them in the "Norton protected" folder. You have to purge that folder. I went from 13 out of 80gig free space to 26 out of 80!!!

download ccleaner or even the free trial of windows washer.
you'll be amazed at how much junk those programs clear off your computer.
