Some of you here said that korean girls are materialistic and said that negative way.
Age 22, when most my friends were thinking about marriage/career with Chabul companies, I decided to go Saudi Arabia. The main reason I decided to go Saudi Arabia was money, it was nothing to do with culture..etc ( I already knew they have terrible culture ).
I am a licensed professional and could make $ 75,000 a year in Saudi and could save almost $ 70,000 a year ( We were provided free house, free utility and free company car/driver ) and during I stay there I've traveled Barain, Egypt and Turkey.
There was no life for single foreign women, women can't drive, we couldn't go out individually ( we had to go out as a group even through we need to buy a bundle of green onion ), no bars, no wine/no alcohol ( Religious police regulalry visited male foreign worker's house to inspect if they are making wine at home ), no church ( we had underground church ).
I've married to an American guy who was making $ 250 a hour ( He was licensed professional ). I've dated several times in my life, somehow I've never dated with a poor guy/or high school graduates, not that I try not to do, but somehow it was always guys who were well educated with solid financial background I dated with.
I am not living in Las Vegas, but I am a regular client of one of biggest casinos in Las Vegas ( my cousin works at there ), I am an excellent poker player, once I've won $ 1.2 million during 18 months period, it require 5% of skill with 95 % of luck and somehow I had that good luck.
These days I don't play much because it seems the luck doesn't work with me any more, still I won 3 times $ 25,000 this year alone ( total $ 75,000 )and several hundreds many times and several thousands a few times.
I am an intensive competitor, this nature sometimes bring good things, but sometimes bring not so good things, a few times I've played 72 hours straight without any sleep ( 2 meals during 72 hours ) and one time I was so sick the staffs at casino had to call embulance
I am a youngest of 5 children, even my brothers/sisters sometimes like about me. When I told my mom that I am going to bring an America guy to introduce, she said " I don't know why, somehow I always thought you are going to bring white boy "
It was a great marriage and my parent loved him more than me in some way.
Materialistic ? I am not sure, but I was somewhat different. |

I'm just glad my Mom stayed home to take care of me when I was young, instead of traveling to Vegas to play poker like an addict.
Materialism is the least of your concerns.
By the way, you forgot to mention the old rich guy you were dating for his money. |

Didn't know trolling paid so well, or that there was a license for such activity.
Hmmm...learn something new every day.

yeeehah! What a great story! Although it's as pointless as any other story by any Dave's goon, because all of us are irrelevant and moreso the little stories we can spin about ourselves. |

Your concern was honestly once my concern too, that's why I am not visiting Las Vegas like I used to, also I am working 4 days a week now, I have no time to visit Las Vegas these days. |

To go Saudi Arabia was revolutionary way of thinking at the time for young female, I had chance to go another countries ( better than Saudi ), but Saudi Arabia offered most money than any another countries. We were provided free house/free food/free utility/free company car/driver and the only thing I had to spend my money was for restaurants and buy stuffs for korean food.
I was only a Korean and there was a Philippino girl, but the rest were American/British. When I look back, it's like " WOW, how I decided to go there ? " I am glad I did. |

What are you licensed for?? Not to sound skeptical but at age 22 (Korean age?) you went to Saudi. If your an Accountant you had to get your masters and take CPA and usually you need yo work for an auditing firm.
My sister works for Exxon/Mobil in HR (Global Reorganization) and she told me unless you have a specific skill they are not going to send a inexperienced accountant over. They will however send field engineers and welders and robotic engineers and stuff like that. So did you go to graduate school??? What are you licensed in? |

Wow, what kind of jobs are in Saudi and how do I get licensed for one? I know it's not a fun place, but it's great for a single guy or gal to save nice sums of money that allow you to invest or start a company and buy some real estate.
You materialistic? No, just being smart in securing your financial future so you can afford to own a place to call home and never be in dire straights. Ok, maybe you do wear lots of expensive bling and live it up in business class up front. Sometimes, we all need a fancy 5 star experience, especially after roughing it for a while. If I could pull it off, then I'd be like you.
Materialism is when you over do it on expensive things and only focus on what makes you look rich while you may or may not be rich nor building wealth. For example, a materialistic person might wear thousand dollar suits to work and on weekends with a diamond tie tac. I've seen materialistic $8/hour telemarketers borrow money to afford nice suits and a laptop just to look like a materialistic business exec. I noticed Korean city people are very materialistic in shiny silver platinum business suits and lots of sparkling bling, but this comes in an era that offers new wealth. America was once very materialistic about 40 to 50 years ago when new wealths were being generated such as women wearing huge sparkling rhinestone jewelry with ornate puff sleeve suits and the men wearing red ties with gold and diamond tie tacs in pin stripe executive style suits and a hat while sending their sons and daughters to college and then getting them a job to start their careers. It's natural to do some high society things if achieving new wealth during an exciting time of growth and potential for an overly successful career. I so long for a great opportunity to make a career that allows serious saving up, investing, enjoying the finer taste, and being my own boss someday.
When I was young(20's), I too thought having fancy high class style was better than saving money so I ate out in excessively nice restaurants and took really nice European trips like the rich do. Of course, I made twice as much money during the late 1990's than I do today, but today my $28,000 a year is the best I've seen since 2000 so I'm celebrating a bit with some good $50 bottles of Scotch and $30 a pound steaks a well as a fat notebook computer with a big solid wood desk. My materialism was associated with travel and education; not so much tagible goods except I wanted ornate marble, a big office, and lots of money, but can't have that. I borrowed $35,000 for my education and find it's a big white elephant just like a closet full of $1000 suits would be. Sure it got me this English teaching job, but it's only $30,000 a year; not the $60,000 to $100,000 I need.
Now, in my 30's, I just want to be practical, but still have a good time in taking a few trips and saving money to buy a house, invest, and even start a business of my own. Jobs just don't provide enough and I have an entrepreneurial spirit which makes a job so boring. OK, enough of my bragging about how I'm reclaiming my materialistic expensive taste I had during the 1990's. It's high time to curve spending as the economy is getting terrible and we'll need what money we can get our grabbers on. |

Not really, I learn a lots of lessons...
How I won $ 1.2 million during 18 months period at MGM Grand ?
It wasn't from 3 card poker/4 card poker/Texas HoldEm/Lets it ride or live poker, mainly it was from slot machines.
I first visited Las Vegas with several friends when I was just 21 years old ( it's a legal age for gambling in America ), I put $ 20.00 into $ 5.00 machine without much thinking and I've hit $ 25,000 jackpot ( it was 10 times pay machine ) which was 10x10 with double bar ( I still remember so clearly ), this was my first taste of casino in Vegas.
Since then I didn't visit Vegas for several years, I was busy with my life ( Saudi Arabia, marriage...etc ), then like I wrote here previously, unfortunately I became a widow, I couldn't get over the grief, then my cousin who was living in Vegas invited me there ( intention to help me to get over grief ), that's the when I started play again.
Somehow I had unbelieveable luck, I've hit $ 180,000 jackpot ( it was $100 slot machine and I've spent only $ 400 that machine ), anyway concerning with slot machines I've learned very quickly that no one can beat casinos ( you have no control ), I was smart enough to realize that reality very quickly, then I've focused table games and once again I did very well for a while.
These days I work 4 days a week, no time for visiting Vegas, but I have nothing to regret, NOTHING ! |
