Last night I was drinking with friends in a bar in Hongdae when a foreigner and his three Korean companions invited themselves to our table.
Quick to introduce himself and his three budjuanas as experts in Taekwondo, the conversation progressed along to how Taekwondo was not so much a sport but a martial arts lifestyle for those who were "ultimate warriors."
My curiosity piqued, I inquired as to how good these likely lads were and was told in all seriousness by the foreigner that anyone of them could murder the opposition going round at Coex in the Gimme Five (G-5) tournament, not to mention beating most of the fighters making up the numbers in the K-1 and Pride competitions.
Astounded by this part-time English teacher / musician's boasts, I pushed a little further and asked if he believed he could take out "the baddest man on the planet," Iron Mike Tyson.
"Well, if I had five months training, sure, I could do it," came the reply.
In all seriousness lads and ladets, I genuinely believe some of us waygooks need to lay off the booze and touch base with planet reality before heading out for big evenings on the town. |

I get the impression that people saying dumb *beep* when they're drinking is a new experience for you. |

Uh, no ... I guess I forgot to mention that these guys seemed to be Stone Cold Steve Austin sober at the time. I am only hoping that alcohol was an excuse for their delusional boasting. |

JB, I just can't seem to put my finger on the significance of your avatar, if there is one. I can't see any skin, especially since it's the dead of winter. Hmmm. |

That's quite interesting given the thread title you've chosen ("Korea, Booze, and Delusions"). |

People who do this are seldom the harbingers of a good time. |

That's true and the conversation always seems to go downhill when strangers invite themselves. If I wanted to ask you then I would invite you. The foreigner seems to be a bit of an idiot and probably he thinks that the Koreans are he best buds when they are probably laughing at him behind his back!!! |
