I was planning on taking a trip over nine days from Christmas Eve until New Year's Day and the Philippines was on my shortlist.

You are going for over two months?

Enjoy!

What's up, Chiaa? You dumping the bookstore and the wife, and shackin' up with some golden-skin honey down South in the Phils? Laughing

I've heard that philipino ladies are extremely kind until problems arise, great in the sack, but lie lie lie about everything little thing. Make sure you find one that brushes her teeth.

Nah, not leaving the wife or the bookstore. I will actually be there for business, but not there all the time. Looking like a 50/50 split. I cannot tell you what I will be doing there as its top secret for the time being, but does affect the store here a lot. Very Happy

Renting an apartment is the same as getting a half way decent hotel room for four nights. A one bedroom in one of the new executive towers will cost you 9.000 Pesos a month.

Yes, it is in Makati.

For a furnished place you are looking at between 2.000-4.000 more per month. I have no idea if this is worth it yet as I have not seen the furnishings. I have been told that second hand furniture can be picked up on the cheap so that might be a better way to go.

Here is a "the best" site for classifieds in the Philippines: http://www.buyandsellph.com/

Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm kinda doubt P 9,000 - maybe a SMALL bachelor pad. I was paying P 7,000 for a large one-bedroom in Mand. (15 minutes from Makati) and that was 5 years ago.

Another option is just get a room - check the BuynSell.

Kabayan is a small hotel chain with good prices, but none in Makati - Cubao and Pasay (a hop/skip/jump using the MRT) from Makati.

Chasing down second-hand furniture would take tooooo much time, but you might get lucky. BuynSell is a good place to start the hunt.

I used to live in RP, been back many times. PM if you want.
Have contacts that could be helpful.

You will need a cell-phone - 2nd ones available in Virra Mall (Greenhills).

Change money at Robinsons Galleria - Ortigas/EDSA (cash only). TC at SM. You likely need to bring the receipt.

Do NOT take a taxi from the airport - huge rip-off - walk to the street (tell me which airline for specifics - there are 2 different airports), and take a bus/jeepney/regular taxi.

December is the peak time for travel/traffic, so plan on things taking much longer. Most executives will be away/busy/pre-occupied.

GMA/NCR/MM (all abbreviations for 'Manila') will get tooooo much - so plan on getting away for a few days at least - Los Banos, Batangas, Baguio........

Do get a city map (National BookStore) and map out your destinations; group by location to save time. Schedule appointments in early morning or late afternoon, else the heat will knock you off your butt.

If you schedule business appointments, expect people to be late; bring a book. Do confirm a few hours before. Be extremely careful before making any payments, despite having a contract. Do not expect people to do anything by phone; business is done face-to-face. If it's your first contact, expect to be 'handled' by a minion (who can do nothing, except bounce you up).

What else? Enjoy real Chinese food Smile Burgos Street in Makati can be fun - nightclub wise, else Pasay Entertainment Complex.
