Hmmmm...
I just scanned my degree in preparation for printing off various copies for my trip to find work in SK, and my devious mind starts ticking. 
I��m a bit of a Photoshop Guru you see, and could easily change my hard earned BSc into a tasty, better paid MSc. (I did a 4 year degree anyhow).
My question is not one of ethics, but rather do employers ever check these things out? Is it really likely that they call up/contact your old Uni to see what grades you got? What would happen if I got caught?
What proportion of people working in SK are on dodgy certificates anyhow? I'm thinking it's fairly common.
I know it would be ��naughty�� to forge stuff, but this is Asia we��re talking about – not exactly the world��s bastion of anti-fakery, -corruption etc...
Whatcha think? Don't hate me for contemplating this, I doubt I'm the first to ponder the idea  |

well when you go for your visa you may have some explaing to do as immigration likes to verify that your degree is real. I really do hope that you get job the deserve for delibertly misleading your potential boss when you find out that they have 'mislead' you. |

| Not sure that an M Sc (as opposed to an MA) would be that marketable anyway, depending on your subject. |

Doesn't your degree have a foil or embossed seal of some sort? Most do.
Also, most are printed on some form of parchment paper (you could buy this anyway).
I honestly don't think they call schools to verify degrees. |

| Yeah.. these days any school that would care about the MA/MSC over a BA/BS (like a university) also wants transcripts too. Some Korean consulates also want transcripts in the visa issuance process. |

Easy tiger - just bouncing round some ideas, I haven't decided on whether to try it yet.
I bring up the idea also because my psychology degree is actually of Masters level, but an archaic rule got me a Bachelors which I'm still a bit bitter about:
I got my degree from Edinburgh Uni, where if you studied psychology and were from the Arts Faculty you got an MA, whilst if you were from the Science Faculty you get a BSc. So half my colleagues got MAs whilst I got a BSc despite the fact we did exactly the same course. Bummer. (It��s an old archaic rule: women aren��t allowed to get a Masters of Science without having received a Bachelors first, hence the discrepancy. Gotta love tradition).
A nice bit of general knowledge for you. |

I'm not throwing stones either but.... changing one's degree to reflect a MA or....
I suppose the one's who actually did earn a MA are not to pleased!
ethics question? Morals? Upbringing?
In Canada or the U.S., yeah, you'd be caught and branded for life most likely.
But hey, everyone does it right! |

Try scanning your transcript sometime.
If it is like my transcript it has special "markers" that say COPY when photocopied or scanned.
Immigration DOES check the documents.
No transcript, no dice. |

oh cry me a river. If you so desperatly want a masters here's a revolutionary idea: why don't you study for it? Or better yet why didn't you enrol in the faculty of arts.
Degree fraud is something that universities take seriously (as it's their academic reputation as stake) and if they get wind of it you can bet that you'll have a lot more to worry about than a denied visa. And korean consulates are checking up a lot more on your degrees so your going to have to fake your transcripts too.
To be honest it's stuff like this that helps make the industry here so bad. Do us all a favor and stay home. |

Speaking of transcripts, I have never needed them until this year. I can't seem to get a job and I have been asked for transcripts. My university sent me a web connection for ordering them, but the site won't work for me. 
It says the computer has to be enabled to use cookies, (whatever they are). Anyway, what am I supposed to do? I can't get a copy of my transcripts.
I really can't see I would need them this year anyway. I've worked 2 years without them. but this is Korea.

If you want a fake degree you'll have to either earn it the old fashioned way or buy one from a degree mill.
Immigration needs to have an orgininal copy or a copy notorized at a Korean embassy abroad. In order for it to be notoriized I'm pretty sure they'll need to see an original anyway.
You can use the fake masters when looking for employment, but you'll have to really cross your fingers and hope they don't notice the change when you give them the actual degree.
Most Hogwans won't pay much more for a Master's of Science anyway....it could only help you if you were trying to get on at a Uni really.... |

Well, you would think that if I've been working here legally for 2 years my degree must be OK, would you not?
Sorry I don't mean to be rude, it just seems like common sense to me, but then again............. oh yeah, I woke up in Korea.
