What is the story with that fellow, and why does he seem to be the butt of so many jokes?

He's a British institution. He sand classics like "We're all Going on a Summer Holiday" and "Forever a bachelor boy". He's still a bachelor, but thats because he doesn't like women in that way.

When Elvis started they called him "The American Cliff Richard".

Cliff is a living dinosaur. Its just that the meteorite didn't kill him and now evolution has bypassed him.

Now, now, do the British ask the Americans to explain Bon Jovi? Or for the Canadians to justify Bryan Adams?

I don't want you to justify the man. I just want to figure out why he is made fun of in some of the books I have read recently by British authors.

Bon Jovi can be explained easily. He is actually a Canadian disgused as an American.
