I read that Iran is pretty pissed off about this movie, claiming links to Persian culture.

I need to buff up my history knowledge a bit before I comment to deeply on this one, but I am sick to death of all this culture war bullshit...

I went into this movie expecting to have my sh*t RAWKED, and instead I get a GAY PRIDE PARADE?!

To wit: Xerxes and his forces of ultimate fabulousness conquer the Spartans, or more precisely, they puncture with their phallic arrows the Spartans' perfectly airbrushed abs and pecs of steel.

I've nothing against either gays or hardbodies (some of my best friends are both, etc.), but in a movie where heads roll and blood splashes onto the camera lens I can't help but feel trapped by the producers who, like the guilty parties who produced "Top Gun", have you imagining that you are worshiping one ideal (glory, blood, guts, et al) whilst secretly you are being programmed to accept another.

I am more fabulous for having seen this movie.

p.s. The fay-ass pooftas from England conquered the world so I guess it's not about guts, glory, and perfect abs after all anyway.

I saw it yesterday. The oddest aspect, in my opinion, was that all the leading Persians were black. Nothing at all wrong with being black, but Persians are/were Aryans. It just struck me as odd. The Immortals are monsters of some kind.

Rather than portraying them as gay and therefore evil, I thought it was reinforcing the idea of otherness being evil and black.

Visually, it's a pretty impressive movie. Historically, it is crap, and that's unfortunate, but it is derived from a comic book, so what can you expect? There is zero character development and I thought the theme was pretty obscure, at least obscure enough that I'm not sure what the theme was. The Greeks thought they were fighting for freedom against tyranny (a little ironically since the economies of the most successful Greek states were all based on slavery, but what the hey).

And it isn't as gory as it could have been. Very limited amounts of blood, given that heads are rolling and arms are being lopped off. When Leonidas dies, there is no blood at all to disfigure the beautiful body.

There was an odd feeling that it was filmed on a stage that was too small for it. I expect in a modern movie to feel 'real', not a filmed stage play. But that's just me.

Anyway, I'm glad I saw it and would give it a B.

Firstly, I'm glad that this movie got Iranian's blood boiling. I hope those who don't like this movie have a heart attack or stroke and die.

Lastly, I saw the movie and would give it a "C+" for too much computer special effects. And as someone said, it's almost like watching a animated movie (cartoon).

As usual I avoided all trailers, blurbs, and discussions having anything to do with this movie. I had no idea that it was based on a comic book and all I really knew was that it was the battle of Thermopylae so I was expecting an historical movie. Well, as history it's crap, but as a graphic novel movie it's pretty good.
