ok, here it is... i'm a recent arrival who has been for a few nights out here and all i can say is 'jesus, the foreigner scene is sleazy!'

i know i'll get flamed for this, but it seems to me like so many guys come to korea because they can't get laid at home, and have heard from someone that korean girls like western men. unfortunately the lustfulness of these fat, bald old men seems to be reciprocated by many of the korean girls who go to these establishments, even in spite of the fact that so many of these guys approach them in an unbelievably sleazy manner.

now, as much as i like korean girls, i'm getting really put off talking to any in these places, because i don't want to be part of something that i find pretty nauseating. so, are there any decent english-speaking places that aren't like this?!? (particularly busan, please!)

and yeah, i know i'm arrogant for thinking i'm more attractive, or better even, than these fat old men. so you don't need to tell me of it, ok?

What sort of place were you in? It sounds like you've been witnessing old guys who pay for the attention and services of these girls...not unusual in Korea- or anywhere. I haven't seen many balding old guys who genuinely have young and pretty girlfriends- the ones i have definitely appear to be showering them with cash...
Don't know much about Busan but I'm sure theres plenty of normal bars where you can try your luck chatting up gals who aren't in it for money...

sounds like you are either watching whores or women who are after the old guys for their money. in either case, not exactly the kind of woman you want to be making your girlfriend. just move around busan, try out different bars. i'm sure you'll find one that is just right for you.

also, if you are looking for a full time girlfriend, remember that most people don't find the love of their life in a bar.

I didn't like Busan too much. There were only a few bars to hang out in, I remember. One was the Hollywood Star and that place was jammed with army guys...however, when they went home, the girls were still in the bars and drunk. Another was New York New York, but last I knew they banned all foreigners. There's another place near PNU that gets packed with foreigners and koreans, but the place was really small and there were more korean guys than anything. What you could be seeing is the co-worker scene. A lot of times schools and the teachers go out together. Perhaps what you are seeing is just hanging out, not dating. I rarely see super ugly bald guys with beautiful girls. Usually the girls they are with are not that good looking. Anyway, I could write more, but this topic has been done to death.

thanks- i'm not really looking for a girlfriend either, just a normal sort of scene, you know what i mean? i know these bars aren't the kind of hooker hangouts you describe, but just english speaking bars that are full of weirdos! are there any western type clubs in korea?

Are you really in Busan? I lived there for a year and I never ever saw any old foreign men with hot young Korean women. The only exception I can think is the sailors who pay for sex down in Russia Town down by the ports.. but with the exception of that small area.. I'd say good luck to anyone in that entire city trying to get a hot sexy Korean girl.. particularly for old foreign men.

Anyhow, seems like you're either spamming the board.. or projecting seedy sleezy Russia Town for the entire city.. or you are basing your experience on some Pattaya/Angeles City southeast Asian city or something.. whichever is the case it definetely is not common in Busan. Never saw anything like that in my year in Busan.

Have to go with TB on the Texas street thing (I live in Joongang dong less than 5 minutes walk from Texas street). Outside of there I don't see the hotties with the fat oldies (sorry to use such steriotypical terminolgy, usually not my style).

I have lived in pusan for nearly three years to present day.

ok everyone, cheers for the helpful comments, and even the angry ones. i know what you're saying, and i'm sorry if any of you found my comments offensive. but anyway, i'm entitled to like or dislike whatever i please, just as everyone else is.
i must say this week i tried some other places and had a great time, so i'm not going to complain any more.
