In a welcome move from the industry, Pioneer has unveiled their BDC-S02 combo drive - a low cost alternative for those looking to playback Blu-ray discs on their PC without the added cost of purchasing a burner. The combo drive will play Blu-ray movies, as well as read any stored information off of BD-ROM, BD-R, and BD-RE discs (both single and dual layer).

Nice to see. Hopefully that'll be included in my new build next year. Heck, the price might even be close to something I'd splash out for a new drive!

This is good news. I want the burners to become cheaper, and they will of course. I remember when I got my new 386, I got a cd burner for $1000 dollars. The friends and I thought it was amazing. The Pioneer gold disks cost 20 bucks each at that time.
