Try using VLC player. (freeware; google it) It plays everything I've tried and has a "snapshot" function to boot.

The site:
http://www.cinewel.com/
hosts movies online... it streams them using it's own proprietary player... I don't think your suggestions would work in this case... would they?

It was really odd when I did try "prntscrn" it created a window but the image never moved. When I pasted it into a graphics program it just stayed in the same position... if I zoomed in I could see the image at the appropriate size... but if I zoomed out then there was only a small portion of the image viewable at the same scale... it basically created a peephole... really weird.

Hmmm....

yes you can.

1 Open Window Media Player
2 Then go to Tools | Options
3 Select the Performance Tab
4 Click on the Advanced Button
5 Uncheck Use Overlays
6 Click Ok

This might work as I got an error message prompting me to install Media Player 9 or later (?) when I tried to watch a movie from cinewel.com on the dinosaur PC in my school's English Cafe.
