KOTESOL is looking for a webmaster for their international conference. Its pretty easy from the technical side but can involve a lot of busy-work: cutting and pasting and etc.

If interested contact Gye Hyoung at gye_hyoung AT yahoo.com

cheers.

You're looking for F2s to do the work right? You wouldn't want us E2s/E1s to break our visa would you?

kudos frankenstein for being the first to jump on the visa danger myth.

you arent (to almost 100% certainty) going to get busted for doing non-teaching volunteer work. "but my friend did!" i can already here you say.

yesyes, im sure it is technically against your visa but so is playing (again non-paid) in a band at a show or having (non-paid) an art show, or a hundred other little things teachers do every day.

unless youre being an @ss then the government really doesnt care.

this isnt exactly the busan 9.

can you give me ONE example in the 15 year history of KOTESOL where a member has lost visa status for helping out?

no, and once again, no. really sorry to be an @ss about it, but i get a wee bit tired of trolls yelling "fire" in a crowded theatre. there is no fire. just cope with it.

Back in the mid-90s, I was the founding webmaster of KOTESOL. At the time, we used borrowed server space at a community college in the States and all the pages were hand-coded HTML. It wasn't the prettiest site, but it did the job.

So an illegal organization is asking us to break visa laws? Are you gonna rob me of my lunch money, too? Oh, wait, you already did.

sigh.

volunteering for ANYTHING in korea is technically illegal, so assuming the organization itself is run by f-2s all is good and fine.

the day the Korean government goes after KOTESOL i will be the first in line to bow before your wise end ever helpful observations...

of course you didnt actually answer my question... but thats not a shock from a silly troll.

i already robbed you of your lunch money? i must be drinking too much soju. i dont recall doing that.

When and where is the KOTESOL conference? Does the person who does the website get admission or any kind of stipend for his/her work?

I recently became a KOTESL member and I've been very impressed and encouraged by this organisation. It's exactly the type of thing Korea needs more of, and I especially like to see the collaboration of Koreans and foreigners involved in it. If I had any IT skills and free time I'd be happy to help out, but as it is I'm an over-booked techno-peasant.

I might be interested. I have an undergrad degree in IT, and have been in Korea for 4 1/2 years. Not a member of KOTESOL yet though.

So, if I agree to take care of the website, I still have to pay for my KOTESOL membership and entrance to the conference?

Makemischief, good job in trying to get people to participate and get involved; but, as you can see, these people just don't get it!

They don't understand VOLUNTEERING!!! They are just money hungry selfish P(@*#S

Good luck.

Yes and no.

You have to be a member to volunteer - we want people to have a sense of belonging and no, because you are volunteering your time, you do NOT have to pay your entrance to the conference.

I would like to clarify that KOTESOL is registered with the Korean Tax authority and with the Korea Research Foundation, which satisfies local requirements. Also, KOTESOL is NOT a "nonprofit charitable organization" (this does exist in Korea nowadays), it is a "nonprofit educational society" (gyoyuk hakhoe)... the rules are different.

We have our own lawyer on the team and we do know the rules.
