I just have a question. My hagwon made me open up two bank accounts at the beginning of my contract. One is for them to make direct deposits into my bank account on payday, which I have the numbers, bank book and card for. The other, however, I don't know what it's for. I didn't get the bank book, card or numbers and I don't have access to it at all but it is in my name. What are they doing with the second bank account in my name?

Definitely something they shouldn't be doing. And, if they are doing something illegally, now it's in your name.

So now you've posted the same thing in two forums with your gargantuan avatar. Nice.

If it's in your name, I would go back to the bank and ask for the card, the bank book, and the numbers. It is in your name. I would actually just close the thing down, since that sounds really shady.

Yeah, you should probably close it. There's no reason at all that you should have an account you essentially have no access to and your salary account is the only one you need. Keep all the paperwork for it though. If you have to leave that place or end up in court you'll probably need it.

Have you asked your boss what it was for?

I would wait after they pay you in the first month go to the bank and see how much is in there, if alot cash it out and play dumb. I might be in the same boat with my one part-time job. That's what I'm planning on doing. Hope there is like 10 million won in there that would be cool.

Tell them you lost your ATM card and can't remember your pin #. Don't forget to bring your passport and ARC . They will close the acct and give you the balance of funds...that's your money as it's in your acct. If you don't you could be liable for some heavy taxes...do you! Shocked

I would do what you said in your other post, say I lost it and want a new one. Bring all my stuff.

I wouldn't play dumb in this country. If you end up with unearned income, which is basically dirty money, on your hands, your employer will eventually notice that it's missing and the account was closed. I would not plan on any shopping trips, I'd report them, get a lawyer, and escrow the sum until your name is clear.
