I have a lot of great students( university Freshmen ), but also have a couple of " hair-splitter's " who have difficulty accepting the differences between proverbs and idioms. If there is a teacher on the board who has had a similar situation and a straightforward explanation of the differences ( these students are operating at an intermediate to upper-intermediate level ) that they can understand, please reply. Thank-you in advance.

Sure

proverbs use stories to convey examples of wisdom

idioms are much more contemporary and and seem to use analogy to explain things much less complicated than proverbs

good luck
