Can't seem to find any previous threads to the movie.

Just watched it. Anyone else see it? Comments?

I saw it about a month ago. I liked it - it wasn't fun to watch, but it certainly was interesting and... shocking.

What was the objective of the documentary - "An Insight To Evangelicism", or "This Is How The Evangelists Brainwash Their Children Into Incorporating Evangelist Views"???

I honestly thought it was terrifying. It scares me to think of how quickly that demographic is growing and it makes me very nervous for the future.

I think the reason the movie got to me so much was because I really hate the idea of preaching religion to children. I can't complain much if an adult makes the decision to follow a certain belief, but it really bothers me when children are scared and brainwashed into believing in a religion.

The funny thing about the movie was when my fiance and I saw it in the theater, the first thing we said when Ted Haggard (the founder the huge New Life Church) was on the screen was how we could see right through him. A little while later his whole drugs and gay sex scandal hit the news.

According to his church Ted Haggard has now been cured of his homosexuality.

It didn't freak me out so much... my brother and I grew up in that environment. I think that despite all the brainwashing most people grow out of that mindset and begin to question the world. AND I think that the brainwashing is everywhere, it doesn't matter whether its in a church where people are dancing or crying or whatever or sitting alone in front of the TV. How is this worse than going home and playing computer games or watching TV all day? EVERYONE has to make choices in their life to grow beyond the white bread brainwashing we are fed.

Good film. I was amazed at how relaxed everyone was in front of the cameras.

T.B., I must agree with that passionate evangalism breaks apart families. It can put up walls between parents and children, aunts, uncles, grandparents. Very sad. So many of the kids I grew up with in church who decided they didn't believe in Jesus ended up disowned by their families. Its really hard to be around someone you think is going to hell or someone who thinks you're going to hell. Church is supposed to be family friendly but it seems to be the opposite.

And...the best part of the movie was when she was driving around in her huge car to the fast food places. sadsadsadsadsadsad.

I found it to be a very sad movie. The people tended to "objectify" others into someone to get converted or whatever. Very two dimensional and shallow. No sense of real community. It really lacked a sense of "humaness". I wondered where Jesus was, because I certainly didn't see him there.

I used to think: "Let's put the fun back into fundamentalism." But after watching this movie I thought instead: "Let's put the mental back into it!" How sad.

I grew up in that environment as well and I think the people in the film are freaks, the fat woman minister especially. Anyone who calls George W. Bush a man of God needs to get her head examined.

She also mentioned a number of times about the Middle East and how they are training and basically 'brainwashing their children' (she didn't use those words exactly)...but she LIKED that they did that for Islam.

I also found it interesting when the little girl went up to the stranger in the bowling alley and it had no real prophetic value, just telling the woman the tiring old story about 'God's plan for your life' and she was convinced she was moved by the spirit to tell her that. I found it most interesting to see her being instantly approved by her father with encouragement 'good job, you were moved by the spirit' (or something to that effect). The implied and encouraged feeling that God told you to do something, and you responded to God's message.

Scarey...reminds me a lot of where Jon Krakauer's journalistic story went on the Mormon fundamentalists. (If anyone hasn't read that book, it is about a a couple Mormon fundamentalist brothers who kill their youngest brother's wife and daughter feeling they were told by the spirit to do so. Why did the spirit tell them that? Because fundamentalist Mormons of the polygamy kind believe in polygamny, and the young wife seemed to be exhibiting devil's control over her by questioning it and them).
