2. Well, you might use a colored pen to write on a box, but if you paint on the box, then you use paint and a brush.

3. No. Mankind and humankind / human beings often are used the same, but human is used as an adjective and often to mean just one person, so mankind would not be a good substitute for human then.

4. No. An 18-year-old has his or her 18th birthday when he or she turns 18 / turns 18 years old. Make sense?
