They hold a strong/ active movement against capital punishment.

Is strong/active a proper adjective here?
If not, what kind of words do you use?
And if the situation is reverse to this (if the movement is not strong/ not active) how do you express it?

Thank you in advance!

The meaning of the sentence is not clear. Do you mean hold or held, and are you talking about their thoughts/writings or about other action(s)?

Do you mean, 'They held a ________ demonstration against capital punishment.'?

Hello 2006-san.
Sorry that I could't make myself clear.
I mean "They had a big(?) campaign against capital punishment."

Thank you!

Tell me exactly what they did in the "campaign".

Not only one thing but a series of activities such as holding a demonstration, holding a rally or a talk-in, posting bills, etc.

Thank you!

Thanks. Then "campaign" is a good word and you can use any adjective that you think describes the campaign, including strong and active.
