Dear teachers:

For the wild creature lives a natural life in which it has, for its continued existence, to exercise its every faculty.

----->

I am not sure why "for its continued existence" is not "for its continuing existence." If you listen "for its continuing existence," what do you feel in your head?

Thank you in advance.

Since the modified noun existence experiences or receives what the adjective describes - continuation, use the ed form (past participle of a regular verb). Or put it in another way, the nun does not cause the action - continuation, you cant use the ing (present participle) form. Continued existence is correct.
