Hello, teachers!!
He is running to class because he is late.
----->
I am not sure "he is late" in the above sentence.
(1) He is already late, so he is running to class.
(2) He is not late for class, so he wants to go to class in time.
Which is better, (1) or (2)?
Thank you in advance. |

It could mean he has to leave for class at a certain time in order to get there on time. He left late, so he is already late. That's why he is running now. He might get there on time, or he might get there late, but not as late as he would be if he walked slowly.
It could also mean that class already started, and he is already late, so he is running to get there as fast as he can. |
