Hi.

I would like to know which word is correct in the below sentence, 'the one' or 'that'?

"Please open the valve of the chamber A and close 'the one' of the chamber B."

"Please open the valve of the chamber A and close 'that' of the chamber B."

Also it would be helpful if you could let me know the basic usage of 'one' and 'that'.
Thanks.

mi

"Please open the valve of the chamber A and close 'the one' of the chamber B."

"Please open the valve of the chamber A and close 'that' of the chamber B."

They're both OK except that you don't need the definite article in front of chamber.
BUT
If you are writing technical instructions you should call everything by its technical name and you don't need to say please.
So in this case: Open the valve to (for, or on) Chamber A. and close the valve to (for, or on)Chamber B.
This helps to avoid confusion when writing instructions for more complicated processes.
