I want to ask a phrase,"give (someone) a taste of their own medicine".
What's the phrase's meaning?

if you steal something from a thief, you have given him a taste of his own medicine.

If a kid at school is a bully and he gets bullied by a bigger kid, then he has had a taste of his own medicine.
