Need help!
Look at the following sentences:
1. There is a cat under the sofa.
2. There are no easy answers to the problem of global warming.
3. There are two pubs and a church on the village green.
4. There is no direct rail link between the cities.
but
5. There is further rain and strong winds forecast for the next three days.
6. There is a shower, television, and two single beds in each room.
Why sentence 5 & 6 use is in stead of are? |

I believe "there is" and "there are" match what comes next. So....
There are strong winds and further rain forecast for the next three days.
There are two single beds, a shower, and a television in each room.
...should be okay too. |
