Hi,
I bumped into John Denver's lyrics of Follow Me. I understood that it's a love song about one who hopes his/her love will be with him/her whenever and wherever he/she is. But there's one sentence in the following passage that I don't quite understand. Could anyone please tell me what "We will be t home" means? Does it mean metaphorically or literally? If it's metaphorical, what does it imply? Does it mean 'we'll get along so well and naturally like we're living at our home so spontanesouly?
If it means literally, isn't it a bit odd to appear here?
Thanks in advance for your help.
Leslie

To have you there beside me and never be alone
And all the time that you're with me
We will be at home |

Hello Leslie -
Do you know the expression..'Make yourself at home'?
Home is the place where we can feel comfortable and relax and be ourselves; It is our haven from the world.
So, your interpretation of the lyric sounds correct to me.
'never be alone/ will be at home'...maybe be he just chose the most obvious rhyming scheme?
Can you think of another word that would work as well? Philo |

Hi Philo,
First, thank you for your help.
I do know the expression 'make yourself at home'. But, I wasn't so sure that the sentence in question meant that way. Tha's the problem of not being an English native speaker.
For the time being I cannot think of any rhymed word that is equivalent to 'be at home'. I can only think of 'we'll be soul mates', 'we'll be like two peas in a pod", or 'we'll be as one'. But of course, mine are much worse than the original one.Do you have any to enlighten me?
Thanks once again.
