Hello, teachers!!
(1) I need some space.
(2) I need space.
I guess that (1) means "I need to relax," but I was not able to understand the meaning. Is (2) the same with (1)?
I looked up in the dictionary and found that "space" meant "freedom." So Is (2) "I need freedom"?
Thank you in advance. |

When your sweetheart tells you that he or she needs some space, it means he or she feels you are taking up too much time and getting too close, figuratively speaking. The person may be thinking of breaking up with you, but doesn't want to hurt your feelings by dumping you, or maybe isn't sure whether to break it off yet.
You can guarantee that he or she will dump you by clinging all the more tightly as soon as you hear, "I just need some space."
You should just say, "Great, I need space, too. I've been wanting to go out with [name that guy or girl] for a long time, and now I can!" That will be more fun and interesting than getting dumped, and if you want your sweetheart to regret wanting space, and instead start chasing you, this will probably do the trick.
Good luck. _________________ You live a new life for every new language you speak. -Czech proverb |
