Hello,

I'm still confused about using comfortable/convenient.

"Taking a taxi is comfortable because it is convenient."

Is this sentence right? Awkward?
How should I correct this?

Thank you for your advice.

Yes, that sentence feels slightly strange.

I think "Taking a taxi is convenient and comfortable" is the most likely thing to say if you are ever going to use both words in the same utterance with reference to a taxi.

'Convenient' to me means the ease or accessibility of something.

'Comfortable' on the other hand refers to how something feels - physically and/or mentally and/or emotionally.

I don't think we'd say taxis are comfortable to us because there are many of them about, but we would say they are convenient because there are many of them about (thus making them easy to access).

By the same token, we might say a taxi is comfortable because we can relax in the back and not worry about driving, or it has good seats and an air conditioner. These things wouldn't necessarily make a taxi feel convenient.

Has this helped?
