Dear teachers,
Can you help me with the following question?
Being a teacher ______ care and patience.
A. asks for B. requires C. calls D. both A and B
The answer given is D, but I don't think "ask for" has this meaning. Do you think so?

It does feel slightly awkward, but I think it is okay.
Here, "asks for" means the same as "requires".
"calls for" would also fit, but as you can see the option there only has "calls" without the preposition. I believe this question is testing your vocabulary awareness, and if you can tell which verbs with or without prepositions equate to another term given the context of the framing sentence.
