Hi teachers,
I have three questions today.
1. ...However, ite emerged that the risk of heart attacks or strokes apparently increased if the drug*was* taken for a long period.
Will it mean the same if I use "has been" instead?

2.Almost 60% of the *175* million population.

Do I pronounce it *one hundred and seventy five* or *a hundred and seventy five*?

3.Does "I don't share that" when expressing opion mean "we don't have the same view point?

Thanks a lot.

I think you could use "had been" but not "has been" because the study is already finished, and you are reviewing the findings.

There is already a "the" there, so "a" wouldn't be good. I could also use "hundred seventy-five." However, I'm not sure "population" is good there. I guess I'd say, "Almost 60% of the population of 175 million...." (in which case I'd say "one hundred seventy-five" or "a hundred seventy-five.")

Yes, but I think I would probably say, "I don't share your viewpoint."

So is "and" never used in such number?

Thanks

1. If I were reading this aloud from a newspaper or article, I would probably say: "Almost sixty percent of the hundred and seventy-five million population . . . . " Still, I would expect it to say "people" instead of "population" unless written this way: "Almost 60% of the population of 175 million . . . ."

2. When saying it aloud, it is very common to put "and" in there, just as I did above. You can also pronounce it "one hundred seventy-five million" in the above, but you wouldn't say "a hundred and seventy-five million" in this case, because there is already an article there -- "the."

On the other hand, if the text read "There were 175 million people in the country," you would say it aloud, "There were a hundred [and] seventy-five million people in the country."
