Without liberty, man is a syncope. Can anyone help me ? What does syncope mean?

I've never heard of it called that, but according to defintions linked to by Google it is fainting.

In the quote it probably means something along the lines that people act like mindless drones when they become content without having liberty.

A syncope is a temporary loss of consciousness caused by a fall in blood pressure.

It is clear that the sentence is meaningless and is spoken by someone who is pretentious and trying to con people into thinking that he is educated and clever. Pure bluff.
