Dear teachers:
I like John Lennon's song "Imagine" very much, and the lyrics are simple
but meaningful. I would like to know the teachers's feeling about this song.
Would you please tell me that? Thanks a lot.
Best wishes,
Victor |

.
I enjoy the sentiments, but have always thought the melody was weak.

Hi,
My thoughts...
Imagine has 6 million hits:

This rendition of Canon has 40 million hits:

Although Imagine has less, Imagine's continued popularity attests to its timeless message and appeal. Imagine is over 36 years old. Its melody is simple and flows well. The lyrics are meaningful -- more so because of Lennon's death and the things that continue to go on in this world.
But, also think of Pachelbel Canon. It is over 300 years old, and today it holds a top spot in YouTube.
The best solo violin interpretation of Pachelbel Canon I've ever heard is by Daniel Kobialka. His lines are exquisitely smooth, sensitive and beautiful. It's twenty-one minutes of pure bliss.

Some things are timeless. Will Imagine be one of those? Maybe we'll find out in 300 years.
Imagine
John Lennon
Imagine there's no heaven
It's easy if you try
No hell below us
Above us only sky
Imagine all the people
Living for today...
Imagine there's no countries
It isn't hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion too
Imagine all the people
Living life in peace...
You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will be as one
Imagine no possessions
I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
A brotherhood of man
Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world...
You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will live as one
