I saw #1 in some book. #1 seems awkward to me and rather #2 seems natural to me.
To your natives' view, which is correct?

Hello!

#1 is correct. "To make clear" means to be understood.

Examples:

*Perhaps I didn't make myself clear. I don't want to be interrupted.
*I want to make it clear: I cannot be interrupted during this meeting!
*When he put a "Do Not Disturb" sign on his door, he made it clear that he did not want to be interrupted.
*Did I understand your question? I hope I made myself clear!
