Hello,
Could you explain this?
"The zoo is big. We saw lots of animals like elephants and lions and tigers and giraffes, but the bird place was really interesting. Can you imagine? The birds fly free! They're not in cages!
1. Is this grammatically correct?
2. If yes, is there any reason 'and's are used this way?
I wonder why 'and's are used several times.
What I have learned about the use of 'and' so far is this:
A and B
A, B, and C
A, B, C, and D... etc.

Hi Sabrinak,
Yes, they are correct. You can use as many ands in a sentence as you want. Here the emphasis is on each and every animal, therefore you can put an and in front of each subsequent animal. The apostrophe in front of each and is optional. The sentence would look just too heavy with all those apostrophes. I would use a semi-colon in front of "but."
