Hi
The ADB(Asian Development Bank) noted that Asia-pacific needs up to US$6.4 trillion in new energy infrastructure by 2030.
" Unless there is a move away from the dependence on oil and coal, countries will continue to be vulnerable to price hikes in these commodities and will further contribute to climate change, " the bank said in a statement.
It noted that while the worldwide clean energy sector is already attracting significant investiments, relatively little of the amount is reaching Asia because of a lack of supportive government policies and legislation.
My question is:
Does "clean energy " mean " energy causing less pollution to the environment, or rather, eco-friendly " in this case?
Thanks for your help! |

Clean energy means, ideally, energy that does not pollute at all, such as solar power. |

It is sufficiently vague, it could mean anything you want. In purest form, it means wind, solar, geothermal, or ocean wave generated power. But it could also refer to low-sulfur coal (that produces less Sulfur Dioxide, a key ingredient in acid rain), natural gas (ethane, methane, propane, and other -anes that burn cleaner than liquid fossil fuels), hydro-electric (which may bother spawning fish so is not considered very "green" by the tree-huggers), nuclear (which produces no greenhouse gases but is still not considered green because the very word scares scientifically illiterate tree-huggers), and bio-fuels (which still produce greenhouse gases but supposedly at no net gain to the atmosphere since it had to absorb those same gases in their growth).

Hi
Thanks teachers for your depictions over this term. Now, it's understandable enough. Much obliged! |
