I understand #1 is correct and natural for the blank in the sentence below.
1. at home

On the way to the airport, I realized I had left my passport ( ).

How about #2? Is it correct and natural, too?
2. home

The reason I ask you about #2, above, is because I came across the following sentences, #3 and #4, below, in an English-Japanese dictionary at hand.
3. Leave your cell-phone home on your day off.
4. To leave a dog home is tantamount to cruelty.

I thought if #3 and #4 are grammatically correct sentences, then it follows that #2 is a grammatically correct sentence, too.

What do you think?

I think either one is probably acceptable. I personally prefer "at home" for all your examples.
